I will try to share a few thoughts over the Fall Season on what the players are accomplishing and learning. I will try to send out something every month as we work toward the CHSAA tryouts and Winter Season.

Having been a part of Cherry Creek Baseball for so many years I wanted to share with the players what tradition of excellence and pride of work means to our hockey program. Success never comes without dedication and hard work. It requires repetition and paying attention to detail. It says that 100% effort and focus are what we provide everyday. It’s having the ability to look at failure as just one more way we improve to reach our goal. We compete as a player and a group every minute of every game. We challenge our opponent and respect them win or lose.  As a player I am willing to put in the time needed to reach our team goals including, excelling in the classroom. As I said on Day 1 being organized will help you be successful. Without it you will be behind both on and off the ice.

The players have accomplished a great deal so far with tryouts and the beginning of the season and 1st Tournament. I wanted to see as many players as possible during the fall to allow opportunity other than a 3 day tryout. I made the right decision. The players have gotten to know me and understand my expectations. I think what they like most is having someone who is willing to get in the trenches and work as hard or harder than them.  We have started POMR and the results and attendance have been spectacular.  The players already know POMR is much more than conditioning. It is team and success of all not one. It requires leaders to emerge to make the sessions a success. It also builds accountability to self and team.

On the ice we are moving ahead with a large mixture of youth and experience.  We are learning how to compete in the short term while keeping in mind what our goals are for the long term. Even with a variety of line-ups the players have adjusted and worked with the group of the day. The younger players have been improving and several returners have started to make an impression on myself and our other coaches.

I will back in October to share more ……
